Childcare safety
The eyes your childcare provider can't have everywhere.
Childcare providers work with their hands full and their attention split across a room. Perceive8 monitors the audio environment, surfaces unusual patterns and safety signals, and documents what staff can't catch in the moment — so every child's day is accounted for.
You're probably doing this with
Staff incident reports written at end-of-shift, by memory. Video-only systems that flag motion but not distress. Parent check-ins that happen when the parent has time. Or nothing structured at all — just trust, which is sometimes enough and sometimes isn't.
What Perceive8 watches on every call
- Child distress signals — sustained crying, elevated vocal stress, sudden silence after noise
- Staff-to-child tone — volume and affect patterns relative to each staff member's baseline
- Incident language — injury mentions, near-miss language, and physical escalation phrases
- Supervision gaps — extended periods without adult voice in a monitored room
- Medication or allergy mentions — any verbal reference to a child's medical status
- End-of-day summary — automated daily digest of flagged moments, ready for parent review
One alert worth the subscription
If a child's distress signal persists for more than 90 seconds without an adult response, notify the director with the audio clip and the room identifier. The director sees the alert on their phone before they could have walked from their office to the room — and the clip is already there.

What we're not
We're not a surveillance tool, and we don't build profiles on children. We don't provide evidence for custody disputes, CPS investigations, or any legal proceeding. We're an ambient safety layer that helps overwhelmed staff catch what they'd otherwise miss — and we hold the line on who can access these recordings. Every use case in a childcare setting carries real ethical weight. We take that seriously, and so should you.
FAQ
- What consent is required for childcare recording?
- Childcare recording laws vary significantly by state. Most states require at minimum parental or guardian consent for recording minors. Some states require all-party consent for the adults present (staff). Perceive8's consent capture flow supports both parent/guardian consent and staff consent tracking. Your facility's legal counsel must determine the requirements for your jurisdiction before activating this playbook.
- How are recordings involving children protected?
- Audio involving minors is stored with the same encryption as all Perceive8 data, with configurable retention limits. Access is restricted to facility admins and explicitly granted parents or guardians. Perceive8 staff do not access recordings except to resolve a documented technical issue, and even then only with the facility admin's approval.
- Does COPPA apply here?
- COPPA governs the collection of personal information from children under 13 via internet services. Perceive8's childcare configuration avoids collecting personally identifiable information about children — voice data is analyzed but not tied to named profiles. Your facility's legal counsel should review your specific deployment against COPPA requirements.
- Can parents listen to recordings?
- Yes, with facility admin approval. Parents can be granted access to clips involving their own child. They cannot access recordings involving other children. Access is logged and auditable.
- What if a staff member objects to being recorded?
- Staff consent is required before monitoring begins. Perceive8's consent capture flow tracks staff consent separately from parent/guardian consent. A staff member who revokes consent cannot be monitored in that environment. How facilities handle staff objections to monitoring is governed by employment agreements and local labor law — not by Perceive8.
